“Although I am young (ish-38), I am not that great at buying things over the web – well except books and CDs. However on buying a new place, as well as starting a new company at the same time (not recommended), I found myself with very little time and large amounts of redecoration. With clear ideas about what I wanted I set about researching on the web – when it came to my shutters I came across The California Company and other than liking the name (for some reason?!) what I found most useful was the ease of use of the website and excellent measuring guides. Next came the fact that when I requested samples they arrived pretty much next day – something I cannot say for the competition. Which made my purchasing decision easy. I also have to say that they offered a massive saving compared to a local retailer, who will remain nameless. Further to that and far more importantly, I was ecstatic (strong, but good word) when I received the product, which look amazing – I purchased blinds and half plantations – all match, were simple to install and they even put up with a few of my rather more facile questions when posed both by e-mail and phone. 10 out of 10 for everything!"

I bought Malibu blinds from you in June and was worried that I would make a mistake with the measurements I took. I spoke to Chrissie in your office who was fantastic and helped me by talking me through exactly what I had to do. 2 weeks later and I’ve got amazing new blinds. Dear Jean Thank you so much. They turned up in the post the next morning and, when armed with the right bit of kit, it only took a few moments to complete the necessary adjustments. Suggestion, as they were not easily available why not include then with the shutters? As with all things in life it's attention to the detail that makes the difference! The shutters are superb! They really finish off my flat completely, i am so happy! The measuring guides were really helpful but not as helpful as the staff in the office who helped me through potential problem with my difficult to measure windows. Would highly recommend! As with many companies ,ordering and parting with ones money,in this case approximately£ 1200,was the easy part.The shutters arrived without the instructions for installation.The installation instructions on the website did not relate to the hinges already fitted to the shutters when they were delivered.On contacting the california shutter company office the lady who answered the phone had absolutely no technical advice to offer but after a very long and repetitive conversation with her she informed me that a person in the office would contact me when they came off the other phone.That was 7 weeks ago .No call yet.After sales service non existent.Shutters reasonable.hardware,hinges and screws etc very cheap products

My plantation shutters are fantastic and much better than I thought they'd be I have be be honest. I was a little put off having to measure my windows myself but a girl I spoke to (sorry - forget your name!) at california shutters was great and even mailed me back my photos showing where my shutters would fit if I measured correctly. So glad of the opportunity to let you know how delighted we are with the finished result using your blinds. We were renovating our cottage and redesigned it in new England style. It was rather daunting to measure the angled bays and it was a critical time waiting to see if the shutters arrived and fitted. They were perfect and have completely ttransformed our rooms and make the house very light and uncluttered . We visited Brighton and met the delightful lady Jean who held our hand througout and was extremely patient and always very helpful and charming. Many congratulations to you all.

Having only seen the shutters in B&Q on a display stand it was hard to get a feel for what they were really like but we really liked the look of them so took the brochure and went measuring. Now we appreciated there would be a couple of weeks to wait but we ended up waiting a couple of months which was a bit dissappointing but not the end of the world. The lady that called me to arrange delivery etc was very helpful pleasant and did call when she said she would so top marks there. However when they arrived and it came to fitting was where my patience ended! I had perhaps thought they would come pre-assembled for the money they cost but no instead it's DIY time...now I have installed a kitchen, taken walls down and not been afraid to tackle most DIY tasks so this one seemed simple.....until that is you discover the pathetic furniture holding these things together coupled with the fact that all the screws use stupid square heads and are tiny..... Anyway before you all fall alseep, I would suggest there have to be better options out there. If you cannot build your frame mm perfect and attach it to your walls so the entire frame is at perfect right angles the whole way round before you attempt the impossible task of attaching the actual shutters you'll never have a decent result. GOOD LUCK! These guys almost had a great product but got lazy and cheap at the last stage....

I was genuinely sorry to read that while you enjoyed positive aspects of our service, these were overshadowed by a negative impression of our delivery and hardware. Shutters are a bespoke custom made product that are available with several different design features. We have tried to make the website as comprehensive as possible yet simple to navigate and understand. However it is an inevitable consequence of the sites structure, that there is a lot of information for the customer to go through. As such, I apologise if it was not clear to you that the shutters would take 7 to 8 weeks to be delivered. It is mentioned several times throughout the site and can be found under the quick guide frequently asked questions page. All frames are pre mitred and pre drilled to make assembly and installation as easy as possible. We are always exploring ways to make the shutters as easy as possible to install but it is simply not possible to ship the shutter frame completely assembled as the shutters will almost definitely arrive damaged. While the vast majority of customer feedback is positive regards the ease of installation of the product, we do make it clear that you do need to have some DIY proficiency or have a person that does undertake the install for you. Finally, one change that I can tell you about is the inclusion of the square drive Robertson head drill bit with all shutter orders. These screws are becoming increasingly popular in the UK as they bite much better that Philips or flat head screws, minimise the possibility of the drive burring when engaged with the screw and enable the screw to be held securely to the drive. The hardware supplied with the shutters is infact more expensive than using regular screws but is intended to make the install easier to undertake. While drives for the type of screw are available in B and Q and other stores, we hope that by providing this free of charge, our customers will find installation easier. As with all shutter or blind customers, if there is any difficult encountered when ordering or installing, we have a team of experts available at The California Shutter and Blind Co who are on hand to help. Thank you once again for your feedback. While your experience on this occasion was not 100 percent favourable I hope you will try us again in the future.
We bought a couple of venetian blinds, I think they were from different ranges but they both arrived quickley, great quality, perfect size and they've not fallen down yet!

I received the shutters I ordered from California in the time stated but unfortunately, the measurements I sent were not the ones the shutters came in at. I telephoned California to inform them the shutters were 3mm out length ways, my carpenter told the representative, who said he would need to plane them down. I don't think that was satisfactory as it then cost me more in the carpenters time to ask him to do this. They fit now, thanks to my carpenter.

Shutters arrived ontime and look great. Surprised at some of the negative comments on here as your naive to think you won't have to have some DIY skills to install shutters! My window plastering wasn't great so took a little off the frame supplied which was great. Anyway, good job and would recommend. ta

Fantastic from start to finish. Easy to order samples (which arrived next day), easy to order (ordered the Beverly Hills big slat blinds) and arrived in 7 days. And the blinds are actually made in california and they still got to me so quick. Not only really cheap to buy but nice quality. Have ordered more and would recommend to anyone.

We were absolutely delighted with the service we received from the California Company. They were able to guide us, by phone, through all of the various considerations of design and dimension to mean that the shutters we received were a perfect fit for the window and the ideal design to complement the size of room, size of window, colour scheme etc. We couldn't believe how quickly we got the shutters fitted too. It must have taken little over an hour to get them up! Would definitely recommend this company for a great service and excellent value for money too.

The California Blind company did everything, I just gave them the aperture sizes and they did the rest. They even advised me with regards how best to deal with unusually sized picture windows. They were delivered within the time scale promised, sufficiently well packaged to avoid any damage and I fitted all of them within a couple of hours, easy. (I obviously told the wife they took me all day so I got to watch the rugby in peace.) The product has been a much commented upon addition to my house and as far as I am concerned, worth every penny. Overall an excellent product from a professional supplier.

Our blinds arrived on the day you said they would. The pre-mitring enabled me to very quickly realise that our window recess was not in fact a perfect rectangle as I thought, but was a parallelogram ! Remember those from school ? Anyway after a little work with a chisel on the wall, the blinds fitted perfectly, and after some decorators caulk and a little touching up of the paintwork, the blinds now look fantastic. They have transformed our kitchen/diner and get good comments from everyone who sees them.

Fantastic Product. Samples arrived next day, ordered shutters with help over the phone. It was cleasrly pointed out delivery times and I was telephoned to arrange delivery. When shutters arrived there was no instructions I phined up and was told they were on the net. I downloaded the instructions and we fitted them in a morning. Great product would recommene.

Really, really impressed. I purchased shutters for one window in the house to see what they were like and then ended up ordering shutters for all of the windows in the house. I was very impressed with the customer service. I had a couple of calls along the way to tell me when I could expect to receive the order and to go through all the measurements. I am not particularly DIY orientated but I found the shutters easy to install. They are good quality and really change the look of the house. I really like them as do my friends who have seen them so much so one of them is ordering shutters for their bedroom. I bought wooden blinds from the california company in 2005 and after moving house went back online to order other wood blinds for my new house. After looking at Hilarys blinds and web blinds i still found california prices cheapest and I can tell you the wood blinds are fantastic. Great staff, quick service and high quality.

I bought shutters from www.thecaliforniacompany.co.uk and they were fantastic. Hillarys shutters came out and they were rubbish. The guy had no idea what he was recommending for my windows and I thought I'd do better myself. Went online, read through the california shutter company website and got the shutters a few weeks later. They were a perfect fit and wnt in no problem at one third the price of other quotes. all thumbs up for The California shutter and blind co!

Bought temporary blinds while waiting for delivery of my plantation shutters. Service was great, arrived next day and an amazing product. B&Q or some DIY should sell these temporary blinds up as they are easy, quick and do the job.

My builder went looking for folding sliding doors and found you guys. Been told you were great and helpful and told him what to do! I just had to pay for the folding doors and found the guy on the phone at California Co great. Doors arrived when you said and builder said all went well. A few screws missing but he called and they arrived next day. Doors are amazing and thats all I care about!

Thanks California Company for fantastic service. The shutters were so so SO easy to install - I almost chickened out and paid around twice as much for my shutters from another company but Chrissie was very helpful and assured me what I had done to measure my windows was correct. Obviously it was! The shutters arrived ontime, well packed, all marked up and were a breeze to install. Would A++++ recommend you to anyone wanting plantation shutters!

Bought oak stained wooden shutters and they are brilliant. My french door was harder to measure than the normal windows on the site but the staff were helpful and knowledgeable which made a change compared to some other shutter companies I contacted! Would recommend california shutters any time!

California Shutters I love you! My shutters looked a million times better than I thought they would and were a piece of cake to install. white shutters were definately the way to go instead of walnut (thanks sally!). Transformed my room and were a great price too!

Chrissie my shutters arrived safe and sound. Was a bit doubtful about TNT being able to deliver the shutters without them being damaged but the packing was superb and the shutters were perfect inside! Went up in an hour and those new shutter hinges are fantastic. Thanks again for your help.

Yet again I'm delighted. I bought wood blinds for my old house (the one in Finchley I sent photos of before?) and having moved closer to Hampstead, I thought I'd best upgrade to shutters! The blinds were easy to install and I knew the shutters would be more involved but actually they were not too much of a hassle at all!

Saw the blinds in a box thing on Dragons Den on Monday. Just moved in to my flat on Saturday and had a sheet up. Watched Dragons Den and saw the paper blinds they had and went online to buy and found the california company. I only wanted 3 temporary blinds not 6 therefore bought from you online and they arrived tuesday. Fantastic!
